Teaching Students to Think — Not Just to Pass.

“Why do I have to learn this if I’m just going to forget it after the exam?”

A question from a student that crystallised why I teach.

I didn’t hear a lack of motivation. I heard a failure in the way we teach.

After studying and conducting research across India, the United States and the United Kingdom — including a PhD in Biophysics at the University of Edinburgh — I chose to bring that same spirit of scientific inquiry to secondary education.

Because the most valuable thing we can give a young scientist is not another formula. It is the ability to think.

Why I founded First Principles Academy

Build the thinker behind the grade.

At First Principles Academy, I work with S4–S6 scholars to deconstruct mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology from the ground up — replacing mechanical memorisation with reasoning, intuition and genuine understanding.

When a student stops asking, “Which formula do I use?” and starts asking, “Why does this work?” something bigger happens: they begin to trust their own mind.

PhD-led Research thinking brought directly into secondary education.
Approach Socratic questioning, first principles and cognitive science.
Beyond the exam Confidence with unfamiliar problems, not just past-paper patterns.
The purpose Curiosity, clarity and an enduring love of understanding.

Better grades are important. A stronger mind is the goal.
